On 3/5/2014, the Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued the final rules on the Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) reporting, required under Section 6055 of the ACA. The rules require issuers of insured plans (such as Aetna Student Health plans) to file reports with the government annually about the type and period of coverage, and to give related statements to covered individuals.
Insurers are required to provide Taxpayer Identification Numbers (i.e., Social Security Numbers) for all covered individuals. This includes covered students and their dependents.
Please respond to the letter from Aetna in a timely manner. This is not a solicitation.Â
If you or your dependent(s) do not have a SSN, please disregard the letter from Aetna.
